300km in one day on a 20 year old bike, what I learned - moto Expert - 09-25-2026 Did a 300km round trip last weekend on my old CB750, mostly backroads with some highway stretches. Bike has 87k on the clock and I've been maintaining it myself for years. Figured I'd share a few things since a lot of guys ask me about long rides on older machines. First, tire pressure matters way more than people think. I ran 36 front 38 rear cold and the difference in how the bike tracked through corners was night and day compared to the lazy pressures I'd been running around town. Second, take breaks. Every 90 minutes minimum. Not just for your body but it lets the engine and oil cool down a bit, especially air cooled bikes in summer heat. Third, and this one bit me, check your chain tension before you leave. Mine had stretched just enough to feel vague on throttle inputs halfway through the ride. Adjusted it at a gas station with the tool kit and it was fine. Anyone else doing long days on high mileage bikes? Curious what your pre ride checklist looks like. |
