So I've been watching marketplace for months looking for a winter project and this old guy about an hour from me posts a 83 CB550 that's been sitting in his barn since 2009. Paint is faded, tank has a little rust inside, front brake is seized, and it needs tires and a battery obviously. But the motor turns over by hand and he had the carbs rebuilt right before he parked it. I talked him down from 1200 to 800 cash. My wife thinks I'm nuts but I'm telling you the frame is straight and the chrome on the exhaust is actually decent. Gonna do the usual. New battery, rebuild the brake caliper, clean the tank, fresh oil, new plugs, and see if she fires. Anyone else pick up a barn find lately? What's the first thing you check before you even try to start it? I'm thinking compression test before I waste money on parts.
