Good overview. I’ve mostly seen 3D printing used for one-off brackets and prototypes, while injection molding makes more sense once the design and fitment have been properly tested.
One thing I’d add is UV and weather resistance, especially for fairings and other exterior parts. A plastic can have good mechanical properties but still fade or become brittle after prolonged sun exposure. For a custom project, I’d also test the mounting points and vibration resistance before committing to an expensive mold.
For small batches, has anyone here tried vacuum forming/thermoforming for fairings? I’m curious how the final fit and surface quality compare with injection-molded parts in real-world use.
