Got a 2008 CBR600RR track bike I picked up cheap last winter. Previous owner swore the valves were "just done" but I pulled the cover last weekend and half the clearances are on the tight side. Classic.
Anyway, I've done plenty of shim-over setups on older bikes but this is my first time doing shim-under-bucket myself. The math part I'm fine with, I get the whole measure, calculate, order the right shim deal. What I'm wondering is how you guys handle the cam removal without dropping the chain or messing up timing. I've seen guys zip tie the chain to the cam sprockets and I've seen guys pull the cams with the chain just hanging there. Not trying to bend valves on a bike I just bought.
Also, do you bother rechecking clearance after torquing the cam caps or just trust your math? I know the caps can pull things around a bit but I don't want to pull the cams twice if I don't have to. Any tips appreciated.
