Been riding 20+ years, mostly wrenching on my own bikes and doing the odd repair job for mates. Passed my test back when you could still do it on a 125 and ride whatever you wanted after two years. Anyway my nephew just got his full licence and keeps going on about doing one of those advanced riding courses. I told him the best training is just seat time and learning to read traffic, but he reckons the instructors teach stuff you don't pick up on your own.
So honest question for anyone who's actually done one. Did it change how you ride or was it mostly common sense dressed up? I'm not against them, just wondering if they're worth the money for a kid who's already pretty sensible on the road. Also curious if the insurance discount is real or just marketing talk.
