How to care for shell jewelry — personal experience

I recently bought a cute shell bracelet while on vacation — it’s got these tiny white cowries and a few shiny beads. Wore it nonstop for a week, even swimming, and now the color seems dull and the cord feels kind of stiff. ? I didn’t think sea water would mess it up that fast. Anyone else had this issue? Do you guys take off your jewelry every time you shower or just roll with it?

Oh yeah, salty water is the silent killer ? I had a similar thing with a necklace I got last summer — looked amazing at first, then the shine faded. Now I always take my stuff off before swimming or even washing dishes. I also wipe mine down with a soft cloth now and then, especially pieces like my abalone shell jewelry — that stuff needs a bit more care to keep the colors poppin’. Learned that the hard way!

I noticed a lot of beachside shops selling shell pieces that look super fragile right out the gate. Some cords are too thin, or the clasps don’t feel sturdy. I usually give everything a little test tug before buying now. Noticed that the better-made ones, especially with thicker threading or waxed cord, tend to last way longer even without special care.
